    Plastic or copper

I have to make 4 x 15mm runs (hot & cold for sink + hot & cold for shower from pump) from airing cupboard to new ensuite in bedroom on first floor of my house and having differing advice. It is approx 6m straight run and joists run along the run so no notching etc. Options suggested:- 1. Go up...

    Soil stack

Ok, I've finally got to the ensuite in our house. I need to run a new soil pipe from upstairs in the bedroom, through the outside wall and then meet up with a waiting pipe that feeds into the chamber. A couple of queries.... The route to get through the wall is fine but once outside the pipe...

    Shower pump not cutting in

Thanks for your reply, To answer the queries: The new thermostat and selector was bought direct from Aqualux, fitted fine, looked identical and no reason to think it wasnt the same. Valves are full bore and fully open. No filters downstream of the pump that I know of unless the shower has...

    Shower pump not cutting in

I changed the combined thermostat/selector valve on an aqualux shower cubicle which had begun to leak. Since fitting the new one the shower pump is being difficult to cut in when you turn on the selector to either of the heads. Only way it seems is to drop the handheld head out of the holder and...

Need to paint my son's room and when I have removed the border previously fitted it has taken off the paint back to plaster. Guessing when I reaping this will leave an edge. How do i avoid this, is there a thickish paint or filler you can suggest?

    Shower pump not sensing demand

We have a Aqualux steam cabin which was working fine but had a leaking thermostatic valve/ diverter valve which was leaking via the centre spindle. Changed the valve assembly last week for new Aqualux part but now have a new problem. When selecting the shower to operate by rotating the valve...

Glow worm flexicom 24 hx fault

I have come home to find the boiler in fault mode flashing F1. Other than some initial F22 fault codes before outside pipe was lagged it has always run 100% but now have this fault. Pressed the reset and it has fired with a bit of a whoosh when the flame lit. The wife has now explained...

    Random bulb question

Bulbs mount vertically up, ie screw at the bottom. Certainly was aware of crappy fittings so went expensive fittings when we changed ( i think about £60 each for what is quite a simple lamp). I even pulled up the contact before installation as this solved the bulbs blowing in a previous house...

    Random bulb question

Can somebody tell me why a standard 60w bulb with bayonet type fitting can live in my house giving a lifespan of 5 years plus without a flicker but the bulbs in my lounge last about 2 months if I am lucky!! They are 40w bulbs that look less bulbous than a normal bulb and more like a candle...

    Quick fire round of questions

Just had the back half of my semi integral garage converted to be a home for the kids guinea pigs. The questions involve plumbing in a radiator in the new room which is directly below the bathroom in which I have access to the pipe work for an existing radiator which is 15mm. When we had the...

    Wood to brick fixing

I need to add more fixings into an already installed wooden staircase and handrail. Staircase is about 30 mm thick and handrail is about 100mm. So basically need to drill through either 30 mm or 100mm of wood, into the wall and then fix together. Can't move the wood to use standard rawl plug...

    Meter move

Just a matter of note, the back part of the garage is being retained for workshop and clutter storage etc, thanks for all the advise so far. Remounting the meter externally in a box sounds good, any idea what a DNO would charge for this?

    Meter move

Having the front half of my garage converted and insulated soon to building regs. Currently have the electric meter high on the outside single skin wall of the half that is being converted and the fuses are just the other side of the stud wall on the side that is remaining as a garage. Electric...

    Connection to clay....again

Sounds good, the clay pipe is if I remember rightly is about four to six inches below surface to the top of the pipe and the gas pipe was laid below the bottom of the clay pipe. If I understand you right I should unearth the clay pipe and fit the adaptor bands to convert to 110mm. From here...

    Connection to clay....again

About to embark on converting my garage with it partly to be used as a utility and therefore need to have a plastic waste outlet for washing machine. I have a clay waste pipe running right outside the wall on which the washing machine will be fitted so it would seem I am lucky. However the waste...
