Hi, maybe a bit of a question for the sparks in the trade...
We are redecorating our hallway and want to change the light setup. We currently have two ceiling lights downstairs and two upstairs. There are two switches in each area that control the upstairs and downstairs lights so that both...
Thanks for the advise here folks and agree the suggestion from Sunray seems logical, there is still an element of doubt and what I suspected in the first place so I am just going to see if I can get an electrician to sort this one. :)
Thanks for the replies folks. Bit alarmed by the possibility that there is some bodging to my electrics as this is more or less a brand new house and we purchased from quite a well known and respected home builder. I've certainly never touched them, yet! :)
The only other wires in the back of...
Hi, I've been having a browse but struggling to find help on here to match my situation.
I should say up front that for some reason in my area there doesn't seem to be any sparks that just want to change a switch...well not at least in the next 4-6 weeks!
Anyway, to explain, I have a two gang...
Hi, I have been searching around on the forum and can't find anything that matches what I am looking for...
In summary I've had a new shed installed and was looking to get some light in there. The simplest way I can see to do it is to run a plug from an existing outdoor socket near the shed and...
Hi, looking for some advise...as you might expect from a forum!
I am in the process of planning to refitting my bathroom and will be replacing the toilet however I want one that fits flush to the wall, i.e you don't see the waste pipe.
My waste pipe currently comes through the floor. Is it...
Hi,
I have had a look around to see if there is a similar solution but as with many of the topics on here, each problem can have it's different solution.

Thanks for the reply but once I took a minute and thought it out I managed to realise my lives were somehow mixed up. Kinda helps when you look at the inner gubbings and understand how the switch actually works rather than just being lazy and asking the experts!
Oh, and yes, I addressed the...
Sorry folks, little confused now. I've run all of my wires and have done as instructed but I seem to be getting 1 of the 2 gangs controlling both lights. I'm fairly sure I followed the instructions correctly but in case I haven't here is a pic.
I've basically taken the L1 (com) from the...
I'll be sure to check the capacity before proceeding but interesting point on the floodlight wattage. I've recently fitted a floodlight at the back of the house and that's 500w! Think I may need to tone it down a tad if it needs to be 150 or less!
Kind of what I thought so glad to know I was on the right track. There are 3 cables in there already so would adding a 4th be a problem? Don't want to overload the system!
Ok, here is how the wiring is at the switch.
And at the light.
I suppose I could run a cable from the light to the new light and then to either the existing (changing to a double) or new separate switch but I also plan to spur another two lights in parallel off the existing light...
