If it's not an sv01967 flush valve seal then what is it?

The flush valve doesn't seem to be sealing on the flush valve in the pictures. There's no writing on it other than 'fastpart'. I think/thought it was EV98167 which I gather would mean SV01967 seals but they seem to be too big, even the original smaller one barely fits into the recess in the...

Best spray paint for corroded aluminium ?

My shower door is a right state. It's made from some some nasty alloy that corrodes. I want to try to get a few more years out of it though. Can anyone recommend a suitable silver paint that would keep further corrosion at bay and how best to prep before hand please.

    How to adjust door height?

The information I have found online about adjusting the height of my door centre around turning the screws at the top and bottom of the hinge but mine seem to be seated in a recess of the same shape the prevents them turning. Any pointers please

Should I pre-cut carpet to size?

I need to replace the carpet in an under stairs cupboard - first time I've done any carpet laying. Will it be easier if I use the old carpet as a template to cut the new piece to exact size first? If not, then should I cut to replacement about 30cm bigger? more/less? Thanks

    Sockets in the garage

My new build garage is supplied from its own 16 amp MCB and protected by a 30ma RCD. After it enters the garage there’s a normal single use fuse. It came with a single double socket in the garage but I’d like 12 more double sockets. Light load. Only 3 or 4 things on at the same time. The...

    leaky gland

This pipe screws into the bottom of the cistern. The "gland" is broken and it's been leaking very nicely. Is it called a gland? I need to find a 40mm internal diameter replacement but I'm not sure what I should be asking for. Thanks Gland by happyolly posted 31 Mar 2020 at 11:51 AM

    U bend in soil vent?

I live in a Martin Grant new build. I'm trying to find the source of a leak in the roof and this is the first time I've been up there. The soil vent pipe is connected to the vent cover on the sloping roof - I can see plenty of daylight, and having fitted Velux windows in the past, I can't...

    Decking screws that don't snap!

Whilst I left a gap between my decking boards it wasn't big enough and they've expanded up tight to each other. The water collects and it's virtually airtight so things have already started to go mouldy 6 months after laying. I'm taking the boards up, spray the mould with bleach and then going...

Alternative to bitumen to glue felt

the ridge strip of felt that was nailed to our shed has blown off. I want to glue the next piece as well as nail but £20 for a tin of bitumen when I only need a drop is a bit steep. Thoughts on an alternate please? Silicon sealant?

    Mandatory decking slope?

I've laid my decking horizontal. I know a slope is recommended but it was easier to lay like that. Turns out the surface tension on water sitting on oiled decking is a lot plus some of the joists appear to be a bit bowed so there are low spots in the decking. I can even out the low spots -...

    Non-wood balustrades

I bought two ProBuilt Aluminium railing kits for my decking from Wickes (£60 each). One pack had missing and damaged parts. It looks like there aren't any more available from Wickes (or elsewhere for that matter???) I've got an awful lot of wood going on already in terms of decking and...

how to join sleepers for raised bed?

I'm planning on using these 1.8m x 95mm x 195mm planed chamfered "sleepers" from Wickes https://www.wickes.co.uk/Green-Planed+Chamfered-Sleeper---95-x-195mm-x-1-8m/p/145249 ...to build raised beds one and two thicknesses high. Three questions please. How do I join them length wise? Are dowels...

    Easier decking?

I'm going to be laying decking - likely to be good quality softwood but also considering composite. The nominal size is 3m*4m but I'll let my decking and wood choice decide exact dimensions. One long side is anchored to a wall. I want the decking to be as close the ground as possible. I don't...

    Flapping Ventillation Grille

I've moved to a new build on a very windy site. The extractor fans in the bathrooms are always on and boost when humidity gets high or the lights are turned on There are further fans in the utility and kitchen that are either off or (very) on. The utility one I'm unlikely to ever use. There...

    Replacement trickle vents

I'm not sure of the brand of window/vent in my new build property though I know they are installed by Nationwide. The trickle vents are terrible. When closed the draught where the vent meets the frame is significant and they closing flap isn't that airtight either also there is no tunnel from...

Dual zone heating not working out

We have dual zone heating in our new Martin Grant 3 storey house. Downstairs is fine but zone 2 on floor 2 and 3 is not working out for us. The thermostat is in the master bedroom where there is no thermostat valve on the radiator. At night especially we prefer this to be the cooler room...

Where to but satin nickel carpet thresholds?

We’re just about to get all new carpets in a new build. We need 6 carpet to carpet thresholds and 3 to tiles. We think it would look really nice to get more stylish threshold strips than the usual ribbed aluminium ones. I can find smooth satin finish nickel coloured ones that would match the...

    Laminate slides around

I've laid laminate in a fairly small hallway and there's not enough weight on the laminate to prevent it sliding around. The laminate sits under the skirting board (not yet refitted) with varying size gaps to the block work or plaster board all round. Should I plug sections with cork strip or...

    Alarm / CCTV advice please

I'm about to move into a new build, the neighbourhood is a bit of hotspot for low-level crime, garden sheds, garages, vehicle contents etc. There haven't been any house break-ins as far as I know. A full house alarm seems an unnecessary expense but I'm considering alarming the garage and maybe...

    Better underlay?

I've just bought 20 packs (31.5m2) of QuickStep Laminate from builders depot. It comes with free underlay but I'm happy to spend a bit more for a quieter and warmer floor. It's to be laid on a new build ground floor concrete floor. Urgent thoughts please?
