Combi and mains but still unbalanced for shower?

I think i remember reading that my combi is only able to heat about 12 litres (per minute). If i Reduce the pressure of the cold, will I not have the same problem but in reverse? (like shortening the legs of a table where you keep going and are left wth only stumps! :(

Combi and mains but still unbalanced for shower?

Hi, I am thinking of installing a new shower, eyeing one of those Mira showers. However, on testing my water supplies, my mains fed combi (valiant ecotec 28), though powerful on its own, is not a patch on the pressure coming from the mains cold on its own. Anyone know whether this would...

Replacing bathroom extractor fan but old fuse box

Thanks TTC, that helps a lot. Sorry, just one last question: If I wanted to change for a different type of fan - maybe in line with humidity detector (possible running low speed all the time like an envirovent filterless fan) - would the wiring change and would that be notifyable? And if i...

Tiling on damp cement type plasterboard

Hi everybody, On a mission to sort out my bathroom problems now that I have been made redundant! I have taken down the tiles in my bathroom shower area where water was leaking for months through a bad seal and soaked though to the wall in the next room. The wall (not plasterboard but a...

    Tiling on damp plasterboard...

Thanks – that was a really quick reply! Using your info, it is definitely not plasterboard. It is still hard and only lightly scores with a knife. No paper and grey, cement-like in colour... I will repost in the tiling forum as you suggest too Thanks again!

    Tiling on damp plasterboard...

Hi everybody, On a mission to sort out my bathroom problems now that I have been made redundant! I have taken down the tiles in my bathroom shower area where water was leaking for months through a bad seal. The wall (plasterboard on breezeblock) is damp in the bottom third but very secure...

Replacing bathroom extractor fan but old fuse box

Hi everyone, I have an oldie extractor fan in the bathroom (only small drill holes taking air out!) running off the light. I am thinking of upgrading to a better one and understand all electrics must be done by a qualified/certified person. Can I get someone to do this (inlcuding the...

Mains water pipe from 15mm to 22mm ok?

ah - its a combi boiler - whoever installed it either didn't bother disconnecting the tanks from the cold water supply or thought they were being considerate in keeping the toilet flush separate! OK...so i have decent pressure so i'm gonna go for it!

Mains water pipe from 15mm to 22mm ok?

Just to clarify that it is the 15mm mains inlet that serves the sink and boiler! And if it makes a difference, I live in an area with decent water pressure. Thanks

Mains water pipe from 15mm to 22mm ok?

Hi, I am trying to get rid of my water tank in my flat with minimum replumbing. Is it possible to connect the incoming 15 mm mains pipe to a 22mm pipe that serves the flat? Are there any consequences such as loss of pressure? Note that the pipe also supplies the sink tap and boiler...

insulating a pitch roof above porch/part of bedroom

Hi, the front of my semi has a pitch roof above the foyer and part of the lower floor side bedroom (converted garage). It gets cold and I want to insulate the hollow space. Can i just lay a layer of insulation wool or glass fibre? Can this cause a problem with creating condensation? Thanks!

How can I check an external gas pipe for a leak?

I do worry about someone nicking the copper pipe!!! Sorry guys, i have no normal reason to think it is leaking, just my discomfort at having a pipe outside my house! I know the argument that any leak will just disperse into the air - but with how tight things are right now a giant gas bill is...

How can I check an external gas pipe for a leak?

Hi, I had a new gas line run on the outside of my house (to meet the 22mm regulations) and I am getting increasingly paranoid it is leaking. Yes I know how stupid that is but once i get something into my head... Can anyone tell me if there is a way I can check for integrity/leaks? Can gas...
