    Dodgy pilot light (with pictures)

It is an older boiler, but he said one of the advantages of this was that it was a simpler design than the latest models, so there was less to go wrong. Anyway, I have arranged for another firm to come out and service it tomorrow. They are quoting £50 for a general clean. I take it this is...

    Dodgy pilot light (with pictures)

Thanks. The last guy who came in was meant to return to give it a full service, but I haven't heard from him since. P.S. I expressly asked him about the yellow flame, and he said it wasn't a problem. I had read on here that that might be an area of concern.

    Nothing from my boiler...

This could be off-topic, but.... Assuming this is a house you have bought, contact the previous owners through your solictor if need be. The heating system should be working unless expressly stated in the legal paperwork of the sale. Any problems will be their responsibility to fix.

    Dodgy pilot light (with pictures)

Hello I am having trouble with my pilot light in my potterton Flamingo boiler. A couple of months ago it went out. A heating engineer eventually got it going properly again by sheer luck, as it fired up just as he was about to give up. It has worked fine for these last couple of...

    which wall

Buy this: http://www.laurelcreeksoftware.com/12001/index.html Best thing I did when embarking on my first tiling job --- and I NEVER normally pay for software. (Don't waste time trying to find it for free. I did and couldn't find it anywhere else. It's just a wee program that is not worth...

    Mira Excel fitting query

Hello I am fitting a Mira Excel BIR shower for the first time. I am installing into the cavity of a stud partition wall. I have all the plumbing sorted, and I am ready to tile up to the shroud. What the instructions do not make clear is what is meant to happen with the support backet...

Quick reply needed: bath tap pressure query

It's not cheap stuff. Well, I hope it's not --- it's Kohler. But there is a similar tap without the shower attachment with a recommended rating of 0.2 bar, so I think I'll have to go with that.

Quick reply needed: bath tap pressure query

Hello Hate to be so demanding, but I am about to order an entire bathroom suite, and I need to pin down the tap options sharpish to book a delivery slot. We live in a bungalow. We have a cold water tank in the loft, and a hot water cylinder at ground-floor level. Am I correct to assume...

    Architeckt showers: why so cheap?

Cold water tank in loft. Hot from cylinder. "standalone pump" = shower pump Seeking opinions on this Architeckt model. I already know it is compatible with my system. Just need to know if the brand is one worth avoiding.

    Architeckt showers: why so cheap?

http://www.plumbworld.co.uk/0-17112 Anyone have any experience of Architeckt showers? What makes one mixer shower better than another, and is there any reason that this Architeckt won't do the job for me? I have a gravity-fed separate hot and cold system with a standalone pump already...

    Joining Kitchen Worktops - again

Has anyone ever paid a joiner to come in to do this one job? If so, what did he charge? I'm thinking of installing a new kitchen, but would not want to spoil it with a crappy join on the worktop.

Can you recognise this make or name of kitchen tile?

They only deal with unsolved crimes. I think we can assume that the style police already have an extensive dossier on these tiles and are about to submit a report to the Crown Prosecution Service.

A question for the plaster masters (with picture)

    LOUD Crack/creak at night

I'd imagine it's just climactic expansion and contraction. The fact you put boxes up there probably just made you more sensitive to any noises from above. I was the same for a while after putting chipboard and assorted guff in my loft.

Powering laptop PC in the car

Hello I often use the laptop in the car for directions (autoroute) or for the kids to watch DVDs. I'm wondering about the possibility of using one of these...

    New roof truss replacement technology

I was misleading: they use aluminium beams. So why would they be doing this, and what are the advantages of aluminium over timber? I imagine they are lighter and, since they are telescopic, easier to transport. Which would handle the widest spans the best? Would timber not require...

    New roof truss replacement technology

Hello Splinter. Does this page here: http://www.telebeam.co.uk/pages/cs_%20pop-ups/cs_3.htm not explain that? Small vertical stud walls are inserted to support the roof. From what I understand (very little!) the section of the truss that is removed to free up space is actually there...

    New roof truss replacement technology

What would you need to paint? I hope the fact they have been granted LABC approval means the design life has been examined and deemed resonable, but I don't see why they would ever need painted.
