    Waterproof Wired Doorbell Push

Cheers all – I'll give sparkymarka's recommendation a go, looks just the ticket! If there was a bit more room I'd fashion a mounting for Aragorn84's or 333rocky333's panel mount switch.

    Waterproof Wired Doorbell Push

Are there any decent, neat, small waterproof (or at least splashproof/IP44) wired doorbell pushes? We used to have a great solid brass Friedland solid brass at our previous property, which never rusted inside so I assume it was waterproof, but it doesn't seem to exist now. Our current west...

    LED Tape, recommended brand/supplier?

Thanks all, I'll have a look at the suggestions including the Integral, LEDXON and Osram; plus the Epistar ones from LED Lighthouse. [The "Deltech" type sold by QVS Direct has genuine 3M VHD adhesive backing, but I've no idea if the LEDs are good quality, they are just listed as "commercial grade".]

    LED Tape, recommended brand/supplier?

Are all 10mm 12V LED tapes much of a muchness – or are some better than others? I'm looking to run some under kitchen cupboards, just under 5m in two sections. I have no issue with understanding the wiring, power supplies, cutting, soldering. TLC Direct, QVS Direct and various LED online...

    Newbie Questions

Presumably the router's PSU is a mains power brick, or inline adapter - like most standard ones? If so, just use a normal small UPS and either make up a cable/extension lead with an IEC plug to run from the UPS output to a trailing socket/4-in-1 extension for the router; or you can buy consumer...

Alarm cables crossing mains supply cable - shielding?

To get all my alarm cables to the control panel (Texecom Prem Elite), I need them cross the mains supply to the eletric meter, at 90 degrees. (The feed to the meter comes out of the floor up against an internal garage wall. If I go above the meter, I'll be close and parallel to more mains. If I...

Time switches for LED lighting with power to switch

Yes, the live and neutral supply comes to the switch directly (not to the rose/light fitting), then a cable out to the light. "Power to the switch" is quite a standard term (for new builds I've been involved with at least, our builders and sparkies both use the term) where the power drop from...

Time switches for LED lighting with power to switch

I’m looking for some time switches for our lights for when we are away – just to switch on and off lighting in a few rooms. Most of our lights in our new build have power [edited to clarify: power supply, i.e. L and N to the switch first] to the light switch, which I’d assume gives a bit more...

Shielded modular coax sockets - suppliers/recommendations

In case anyone else is looking for similar, I found quality shielded module inserts from Nexxia.co.uk solid metal, with screw connection for centre pin - they fit well in our single and double Euro module plates. I also purchased to test a MK angled socket as above, it's poor quality...

Shielded modular coax sockets - suppliers/recommendations

Hi, can anyone recommend a supplier of good quality single shielded coax sockets which fit into standard Euro module plates? (I'm trying to match all our outlets with our MK Logic sockets, I've got Euro faceplates by Ultima which are perfect). Also - does anyone know if the angled MK standard...

Hikvision NVR vs Synology NAS with Surveillance Station

Thanks Paul, do you just just trigger recording when movement is detected rather than constant low frame rate recording? Is the sync constant to the cloud? Are you pleased with it and would you recommend?

Hikvision NVR vs Synology NAS with Surveillance Station

Just the exactly of thing I'm thinking of! Thought I'd put a smaller backup hidden somewhere secure, and do real time backup for that very reason - little scroats are everywhere, deterrent is the key! Do you use the DSCam app to view a low res stream when away from home? (One of the things I...

Hikvision NVR vs Synology NAS with Surveillance Station

Great info, cheers guys. Good to hear I'm shortlisting the right gear! What's the Hikvision software like, it is easy to config and it is good for movement/trigger alerts - is it reliable along with the hardware? Are you happy with the external access via port forwarding, or have you made it...

Hikvision NVR vs Synology NAS with Surveillance Station

I'm looking at adding CCTV to our property, probably 3 to 4 cameras, maybe expanding to couple more later. More than likely PoE Hikvision cameras. I already run a Synology NAS for fileserving and the DSM software is great (although you have to buy additional licences for more than 2 cameras at...

would you trust the new smart alarm system or better with traditional alarm?

Wired every day but that comes from my IT background, and talking specifically about WiFi, I wouldn't trust it for anything secure nor allow anything I wasn't 100% sure of, onto my network. I've seen WiFi breached during University labs demos on numerous occasions, seen incredible techniques...

    Texecom Connect

Personally I'd go for a wire (Ethernet) if at all possible - however PowerLine Networking (PLN) are ok for a temporary solution, I'm using a couple of TP link ones to give a 500mpbs connection (more like 300mbps real world) into my new office before I run Cat 6 to a proper rack the house. (I...

Texecom Prem Elite ComIP vs ComGSM

Can you give me a link or product code sparkymarka? The only dialler I can find on the Texecom website is the old one which looks like a keypad. Thanks.
