Is Dulux Trade paint total rubbish?

Oh, and I can see why decorators like the Valspar - the coverage is amazing. You can cover bare plaster in 2 coats. So it is quick. But the result in terms of the finish is horrible.

Is Dulux Trade paint total rubbish?

I thought I would report back! When I posted this thread, I'd already bought a can of Dulux Trade Diamond Matt. I painted my study in this. The rest of the house has been done in the most expensive Valspar paint. The Valspar is AWFUL. It marks like crazy - literally anything that touches...

Help me settle a domestic dispute on kitchen fitting - two ovens!

Hahaha! Love the divide of opinions on this thread. Seems like people are judging on something else other than the facts. Who'dathunkit in a gender dispute?! :D

Can a tiler sort this out, or should I be worried?

Having a new utility room fitted, by a builder. The room has just been plastered. The wall in the room must be wonky, I think. The sink has just been fitted. It's 5cm from the front of the worktop on each side. However, at the back, one end of the sink is 5cm from the wall and the other end...

Help me settle a domestic dispute on kitchen fitting - two ovens!

Putting together some Ikea flatpack this weekend for our kitchen. We are having two ovens, one above the other, in a tower unit. The Ikea cupboards come with fittings for one oven only. However, the store say that it's fine to use two in the tower. I note that the backboard has a 60cm...

Is Dulux Trade paint total rubbish?

Wow, thank you all so much for the advice. I'm reassured to hear that this suggestion doesn't mean that the decorators are incompetent, and that the Valspar paint is actually really good.

Is Dulux Trade paint total rubbish?

Apparently so, they regularly work with the builder who is currently doing my extension (who is very good indeed). But I have to admit I am worried.

Is Dulux Trade paint total rubbish?

Please help me with a decorating dilemma! I have researched my colours and chosen some paints with a view to getting my house decorated in Dulux Trade Diamond Matt. But a couple of decorators who came to give me a quote have said that this paint is complete rubbish and what I really should use...

URGENT! Please help - advice needed on external insulation

I got in touch with the system manufacturer, SPS, who have been brilliant. They confirmed that this type of insulation is absolutely NOT intended to go below the DPC. For anyone else with any external wall insulation problems, I seriously recommend this as a course of action - SPS know...

URGENT! Please help - advice needed on external insulation

I have some builders at my house right now, fitting external wall insulation with a company that does the green deal. They are fitting a system that uses shelves to hold sheets of polystyrene which are drilled into the wall with a 5 point system. The whole will then be rendered. I am...

Aargh! Help! New guttering, now a massive hole in plaster!

The old fascias were attached to the house with bits of wood that slotted into the brickwork (sorry, I have no idea what they would be called technically!). These have been removed and they are hammering new ones in to support new fascias. I have solid walls, so I guess these pieces are closer...

Aargh! Help! New guttering, now a massive hole in plaster!

I should add, the roofer seems like a really nice bloke so I don't want to criticise/complain - just want to avoid any further problems.

Aargh! Help! New guttering, now a massive hole in plaster!

Hi everyone Having new guttering & fascias fitted today on my 1930s semi with solid walls. Bashing in the pieces of wood that hold up the fascias has made a load of plaster fall off the wall in one of the upstairs rooms that I've recently decorated. Bit fed up, as painting isn't my...

Fixing up a lean to shed - can it be done?

Hi everyone - sorry for another question. I'm having external wall insulation fitted on my house. I currently have a small lean-to shed at the back, very basically constructed out of brick. I want to detach it from the house so the insulation can go all the way around. But I'd like to keep...

External wall insulation - general questions thread

Thank you so much! One thing I'm nervous about is that, because it's insulated and then rendered, I'm worried that the render could hide a multitude of sins. BUT I don't know what the 'underneath' should look like, or how to tell whether it's a good job?? I also know nothing about...

External wall insulation - general questions thread

Hi everyone! I'm going to have external wall insulation done on my home under the Green Deal. We have solid walls and it's freezing in winter. Has anyone had this done, or done it themselves? I would really, really appreciate your help. I don't have a clue what to look out for in...

Can I use parquet flooring with a wood burning stove?

Thanks crazydaze. The joiner I was intending to use told me that I would have to 'take good care' of engineered as it was easily damaged. It's good to know that this isn't the case!

Can I use parquet flooring with a wood burning stove?

I am looking to put a wood floor in my lounge, and have been advised against ordinary solid wood because I have a multifuel stove. I have been told the heat can warp the boards, even though I have a fairly large hearth. Does the same apply to parquet, which is stuck down rather than clicked...

I am SO relieved I don't have to strip back to wood.   Ummmmmm  .... B&Q coarse, then fine. I didn't know about the different grades til now! I will go to Screwfix and get some proper stuff. I will also get a sanding block! Thank you both so much for...

Really basic question about sanding glossed woodwork

Newbie DIYer here, please be patient! My house used to be rented, so it's in a right old state. Especially a lot of the wood glosswork (skirting, architrave, door frame etc.). It looks like someone just threw cans of gloss at it instead of painting. There are a lot of runs and drips, and...
