That's what I thought. I asked for bearers, but they're insisting the thing you nail the floorboards into are 'bearers'. Am I crazy or is this how some people actually describe joists? I think they're either mistaken or fobbing me off.

Quick update. I complained and they got back to me to say the 3x2 joists that hold the floorboards are the 'bearers', hence they have fulfilled their obligations as per the quote. Is that credible?

Bricks would be good, but it would need bearers. I don’t think the floor alone would be sufficient, and it will be a difficult job anyway. That’s why I’m thinking taking up some boards and packing with shims might be a good halfway house solution.

Like I say, the base is not completely level but a competent installer should be able to level it with shims, especially if it’s sitting on bearers. I also sent them photos in advance.

What the photo/video doesn't show is that although they're not connected they are bodged with some kind of sealant, so normally it doesn't overflow, but in heavy rain it does. I think I basically have two problems: blocked downpipe and wonky gutters. Both should be fairly easy to fix though...
