    3 armed light earth

Yes, sorry yes it does, so at the top end there is a double wire and that thicker black one, so I'm not sure if the black should be treated as an earth

    3 armed light earth

I was checking this 3 armed light fitting my wife bought, it appears each taped joint has 3 wires from the lamp holders and a wire to the power, the left hand one has an extra thicker wire which I don't understand, Would it be better cutting this wire and attaching to the metal to form an earth...

replace manifold flow meter underfloor heating

I got charged a small fortune to get this done last year, and I now have another one leaking and thought I would do it myself. He was only in the house 15 minutes so can't be a big job. Is it a case of isolating the valves, releasing the pressure into a bucket, changing the flowmeter, then...

losing pressure with towel rails and under floor heating

For a number of weeks I've been topping up the pressure on a Grant Vortex oil boiler running John Guest underfloor heating and a couple of towel rails, I've a few questions as I'm not sure how the system works. I've rang a couple of heating engineers who have not turned up. Will the under floor...

    extractor fan replacement

I've come down now and cleared away, but when the black was in the L terminal it would only turn off with the isolation switch, I swapped the brown and black and it now turns off with the light switch but adjusting the timer wont increase the time so I'm beginning to think its faulty

Can I change manifold flow meter?

Thanks, I've had another look, there is 7 zones, but 10 flow meters, does that mean there is 3 spare? looking at this new image if I turn the valves off on the left can I release the pressure from the valves on the right ? would it be enough to put a tub under this valve to catch the...

Can I change manifold flow meter?

I've worked in the building trade for the last 40 + years and know a little bit about plumbing not so much about under floor heating. I've discovered why the pressure in my own boiler keeps dropping, there is a leak from a manifold flow meter, I'm not sure if I've the confidence to replace it...

    leak from manifold

    leak from manifold

We have a Grant oil fuelled boiler running our under floor heating, I've noticed that 1 towel rail of 2 is losing its heat and I'm having to re-pressurise it within a few days. I have since noticed that there is a leak from the under floor heating manifold, see the image, I thought the 2...

    Leak from bath waste

We've had to re position a cast bath and we disturbed the waste and overflow pipe, it is still leaking from our first attempt from the area marked on the photo, I'd put a load of silicone between the joint. I went to our local building merchant hoping to get some kind of thick rubber washer but...

An old cast iron bath trap

Between me being on holiday and the bath being a holiday flat Monday was the first day I could get back in, when I had an other look it seems someone has siliconed a modern bath waste over the original waste, after the contractor has finished re enamelling I'm just going to do the same and the...
