    Why have these cracks appeared

As title really. Are vertical cracks between plasterboard sheets just a fact of life, poor build quality, or a more serious problem? This is a first floor bedroom under a window. I'm assuming a flexible filler would give a year or so of fix, but tape and plaster would be better long term?

    Crack through floor tile

No worries, thanks for your response. Is there any reason why this would suddenly happen after eight years or is it just a problem that has been brewing?

Think you are getting this confused with a different post....

    Crack through floor tile

Ok, I'm not sure I understand now. Top layer of the tile has come off. Doesn't look too be cracked underneath. Any thoughts?

    What's caused this patch?

Oh, I see. It could just be all this constant rain and damp air that has suddenly made it show up, or it could be an actual damp issue which is why it needs keeping an eye on?

    What's caused this patch?

Keep an eye on it to see if it changes? What am I to look for? Thanks!

    What's caused this patch?

Yes, it's dry lined. Thanks for the answer, just don't remember seeing it before but it's probably always been there.

    What's caused this patch?

I don't think it's an alien hand print. It doesn't smell and it doesn't feel damp. Thanks

    Crack through floor tile

@foxhole , thanks for the response. If I knock on the tile, one side sounds hollow whilst the other sounds solid. Is this just a badly laid tile then?

    Crack through floor tile

Hi, Noticed these cracks in the tile between the doorway of the kitchen and the utility room. Tile has been down since 2012 (new build) and I think it's a concrete floor. Any idea of the cause or how to fix? Thanks!

    Last cracks question...

So I've come to terms that there will forever be cracks in my house and I'm hoping to try and fix them all. I just have one more question about a crack type I am not sure about. The photos below are from the top pieces of plasterboard inside window openings. There are cracks where the...

    Fixing plasterboard cracks

These pictures are of the underside of the top of some bedroom windows. As you can see, there are cracks where the horizontal meets the vertical, but I have a couple of questions. 1) Why do the cracks suddenly go diagonal as they head towards the room? 2) what's the best way to fix this...

    Strange small plasterboard crack

So whilst doing the cleaning I came across another crack which to me seems to be in a completely random place. This one is on an external wall, but it's still platerboard. I always thought cracks started at weak points, like extending from the edge of windows or doors. Is this likely to...

    Sort these cracks permenantly

Hi, We have these kind of cracks above most doorways and windows in our house. It was a new build in 2012 and I'm just putting it down to a bad boarding job (unless anyone knows otherwise). The walls aren't plastered and I think the cracks are at the board joins. There's a million...

    Strange small plasterboard crack

Thanks, Woody. I think I caused the grin marking pencil at each end! There's certainly been poor workmanship elsewhere - we've had tapes coming off corner joints before.

    Strange small plasterboard crack

That's the trouble. We bought it as a new build and have had do many problems I get stressed whenever I spot something new. It might be a scratch, but at over six foot high I'm not sure how. It shall remain a mystery

    Strange small plasterboard crack

Maybe I'll name him. I'm really sorry for sounding stupid but stuff like this gets me stressed and you only ever see bad news articles on the internet - none of them ever say "don't worry". I'm one of those people who likes an explanation for things.

    Strange small plasterboard crack

I could turn it into a feature I guess, blame it on the kids. Does that mean it's nothing to worry about then?

    Strange small plasterboard crack

I'm used to seeing cracks where walls meet ceilings, around doorways etc, but I've just noticed one in my house that I don't know how to explain. It's on interior upstairs plasterboard wall, perfectly horizontal and about an inch in length. It's about a foot from the ceiling, but not near an...
