    Possible Birdsmouth faux pas

Hi All. Only cut one as a template, and it fits ok for a first go. I have 15 degree pitch. My problem is that the height of the heel cut is only about 18mm to achieve the 100mm seat cut. I started to pencil the recommended 65mm height, but my seat cut would have been about 170mm, and best...

    Replacement extension

Thanks for replies. Just wanted a bit of clarity, but will ask BCO on his "up to wall plate" visit. Like to try and be a bit ahead of the game so that i can budget and/or ask a registered tradesman to do bits that i am not legally allowed, or not as up to date with regs as them.

    Replacement extension

From the IET site. What types of electrical work are notifiable? The introduction of the latest version of Part P was introduced on 6 April 2013, the range of works requiring notification has been reduced. Notifiable works The installation of a new circuit The replacement of a consumer unit...

    Replacement extension

Hi. I would like to know if i can reconnect my wiring, (where it was temporarily terminated ) to my new, replacement extension. It was a bathroom and conservatory. Now it is bathroom and utility. All previous sockets ran on the ring main, all lighting was also from one circuit. The shower ran...

    Noggins on mono-pitch roof?

Have been out there working today and there is no way i can achieve better than 15 degrees. Permitted development. Have purchased cembrit jutlands a while ago, minimum 20 degrees. Have to use slate ( even if fake ). Another thread on here explained about WBP Or structural OSB3 with membrane...

    Noggins on mono-pitch roof?

@noseall . Does that mean that I cannot have the 10mm sag on my membrane? Secondly, I can't find anything that shows the insulation in my cavity, joining my roof insulation to prevent cold bridging. Cheers.

    Catnic lintel length

Hi. I sourced a couple of lintels a year ago, when trying to save money before my self build extension. My windows are 760 wide, plus 10mm allowance and 150 each side is 1070mm. The lintels are 1800 long. Is there a reason to use or not use please?

    DPC and wall tie heights

Its a sloping site, and at the worst part im already well over a metre before beam and block. That is very similar to what i think i will do. Im probably going with first ties sat on beam and block, that way my 50mm insulation will correspond with 100mm floor insulation. Then one block with dpc...

    DPC and wall tie heights

Wondering if its a problem with these measurements. Cavity wall, 100-100-100. Concrete filled, then beam and block. First line of wall ties 600 above concrete fill. DPC at 275 above FFL. ( this is one block above wall ties ). Thanks.

    Bathroom extractor ducting

@ Woody. If you were building ground floor bathroom extension, and could choose wall or roof outlet, which would it be. I'm weighing up the risk of leaks into my 17 degree slope versus having the fan about 1.5M from shower.

    Beam and block support

Hi Ronny. Single story rear extension. No professional input. B+B manufacturers only give me all the detail for the floor, not below it. If I'm unsure though, I will go with the 7.3's. thanks.

    Beam and block support

Hi. Quick one i hope. I'm at ground level, have just filled the cavity with lean concrete and will be laying final block for the beams to rest on. As i have the correct amount of 7.3 blocks left for the flooring, can i use my 3.5 blocks now for the wall, or do i have to change after the beams...

    Extension to existing wall problem

Yeah, spot on cdbe. i suppose i will have to make up the vertical using really small end pieces in some of them. When it comes to fixings for the wall kit, i'll have to choose bricks that are full and not have equally spaced fixings. * note the double skin, no cavity. From this end, the mortar...

    Extension to existing wall problem

i'll try again. I will be using a wall starter to join an extension to this bit of original house. I removed an old knackered extension, but as you can see with the photo, the perps are not staggered correctly. so where the wall ends, sometimes i can get a half brick to finish it off flush, at...

    Extension to existing wall problem

Hi. The BCO doesn't want toothing, and modern brick sizes are different to my 1897 house. He has told me that he wants a vertical cut, 100 mm inwards ( where the mortar joint is ) and 100mm deep to prevent tracking. ( i know its pointless, but anyway). As per photo, i have removed a 1939...
