    paint cracked from wallpaper paste

Once its cracked its cracked, you cant stop it, so now you have sort out the cracking bits. So the best way I have found in this situ, is to rub down the cracking bits, and I take you mean not actual cracks, but like a slight puckering of areas. If its like hairline cracks, you canr rub...

    Wallpaper pattern not lining up!!

I agree 100%, I'm amazed at even the really expensive ones can be a bu55er to match. When you go to but your paper, just gently press the paper into place, and if you have to lift the paper to move it up or down, again gently put in place. With some papers its easier once you have the paper...

    MDF

Yes you can use oilbased undercoat, I always do when I paint MDF, but thin well with white spirit the first UC, as the MDF sucks the paint, if you do it straight from the can you will be labouring, and will look very thick. I always thin the first coat of UC, and slightly thin the 2nd, dont...

    Painting freshly plastered walls again

Sometimes its best to just brush the corners that have had the metal strip with some slightly thinned Undercoat. You can be lucky and it covers with the emulsion, but I was a bit lazy and didnt do this on all the reveals and corners, I did UC on a couple, and it covered the metal, and you...

    Removing dried emulsion

Rico, I and other decs come across paint splashes all the time, whether its on the UPVC frames, or light switches, rads etc, and the best way I find is to soak the paint with ordinary fairy soapy water, wet it a couple of times, then wash off. If you have an old scourer type pad, one thats...

    Dulux Trade Supermatt quick question

Your very welcome. :D Thats what makes me wonder if its bonded first, cause it would still need to dry/breathe from the inside out. If its skimmed, (finish coat) then the plaster usually dries between 4-7 days, depending on weather, and you can paint it. Now,some people say, and some decs...

Zinsser is very good, but if you want a waterbased one, then you can use 'dulux supergrip' roughly the same price.

    Dulux Trade Supermatt quick question

Hi there, Did they do a bonding plaster, followed by a skim?, as normally you have to wait months for it to dry out, specially when you have damp proofing done I know there is paints that you can use over wet plaster etc, but if its bonded, then skimmed, it has to dry from the inside out, and...

    Fresh plaster

Yes, its definately worth the effort to do a mistcoat, specially if you dont want any comebacks. The Mistcoat seals the plaster ready to take the proper coats.

    Fresh plaster

You could also use 'Gliddens contract' which is made by Dulux, was originally made for the american market. You can but a 10ltr tub from your local Dulux centre, and including VAT, would cost you approx £15. Its fantastic stuff, very thick, but obviously you would thin it down for your...

What are the splash marks on my new plaster?!?

Sounds like PVA runs, brush over with some diluted oilbase undercoat, but if some of the long runs have blobs or heads on the end, you would have to scrape them off, or give a rub down After oilbase UC is dry, emulsion as normal, the stains wont bleed through. :D .

    pattern wall paper

Good tips there, also if it is a drop pattern,( you can lose a lot of inches with a drop pattern) then it might pay you to work of 3 rolls at a time, there is less wastage that way.

Problems with plaster & lining paper - help!

It could be coming away cause of lack of paste on the edges and corners, or you never left the lining paper to soak long enough.

    Dulux Paintpod

I havent tried it, but saw the demo of one, and looks impressive for the Diyer, but I wouldnt use it. Its quite a cumbersome thing, and you have to use thier special paint containers, if you use anything else and it breaks down, they wont change it. The word is that sales are not very good for...

Best way to cover poor walls

You used to be able to buy an embossed coloured pattern paper, and normally people would paint them a few years down the line when they got dirty. Personally, embossed is very dated, skimmed or lining is the way to go IMO :)

    Lining paper and dulux once

Have you tried cutting out the cracks?, Sometimes you can sand the hairline cracks and it blends into the wall, but if the crack has opened up, and the paint around the crack is looking proud, then your best bet it to cut them open and fill. Even if you line, the LP will cover them as such, but...

Painting on to Newly Plastered Ceilings

I agree as well :) , I always slightly thin my paint, it doesnt lose any of the coverage, but I get a far better finish.
