high water pressure - pipes judder when taps switched off

Hello I am staying at my mothers for a few days. I am reasonably competent but need some quick confirmations. I noticed when the mixer taps in kitchen and bathroom are turned off there is a 'kick back' in pipes. My worry is that this will eventually cause some damage/leak somewhere I know...

    loose mixer taps

Hello I fitted a mixer tap to a sink with vanity unit I made sure taps were tight before installing sink however they seem to have worked loose (maybe partly because of the swinging arm nature of the tap). Anyway I find the underneath very difficult to get to .. it's the type with a horse shoe...

    Help fitting closed coupled toilet

Hello I ve just fitted a new toilet previously I have fitted ones where the cistern is completely separate This time I went for the modern type. Assumed (wrongly) there would be less trouble with flush as it (appears) all in one. Despite doing everything carefully, after flushing, it would...

    replacing taps not necessary

Hello My mother (who I do not live near) has had trouble with a tap in a relatively new bathroom. She is being advised to replace the tap for over £100 - just price of tap, not labour. I am frustrated that I don't live nearby to check myself and I don't know where the leak is (dripping or in...

brick work design - can you buy half tiles

Hello I am fitting a bathroom sold to me by one of the big places. We have opted for rectangular tiles to be fitted in brickwork pattern. Designer just said to use half one end and the other half of same tile at other end (ie no wastage). Anyway the tiles are bevelled in on all four edges (so...

    floplast pipe inserts

thanks to all it's been a useful debate I'm so glad I didn't strip everything and replace with speedfit inserts Firstly floplast are quite difficult to get apart (even removing clip and pulling back collar thing) . Also pipe would have got quite scored and would have had to be replaced. I...

    floplast pipe inserts

fair play to floplast/flofit they replied to my email and assured me that the simple inserts are suitable for both kinds of fitting (compr and plastic)

    floplast pipe inserts

I agree - it doesnt matter if water slip through the insert or between insert and pipe. I assume the true seal is the rubber ring inside fitting around a nice circular pasrt of the pipe (ie insert makes sure it is circular). Any other reassurances out there would be great - thanks ps I bought...

replacing hot water pipes to new bath (15mm v 22mm)

My old bath is served by a 22mm hot water pipe (historically fed from a gravity system I think). Anyway it is now served by a combi in the next room (downstairs kitchen) and hot water from combi is 15mm which then connects to the 22mm pipe in bathroom. I am thinking of replacing all of the water...
