    Veritas R8

Hello, My neighbours have the above alarm in their rented property. It recently started nuisance alarming so they removed the fuse from the FCU until it died. On trying to repower the alarm all they are now getting is a series of double beeps, and from the manual that seems to indicate a...

Worcester Bosch 24i rsf not sparking.

Hello, My (very old) boiler is not firing up. Reset button is in, and holding. Fan runs. Air pressure switch changes state when fan is running. Gas valve feels like it pulls in. (I'm not totally sure about this, but something clunks and it feels like the gas valve) Then after that...

    A few flooring questions.

Hello all. I'm wanting to lay a new floor in my front room. The current sub-floor is 22mm T&G chipboard flooring, the floor seems flat and is currently creak free so I'm loathed to pull the whole thing up. The floor I've settled on is engineer wood T&G. Right in the doorway there is a lintel...

Using armour of SWA as CPC ;)

This is the incoming supply to a power press that I've been called to a fault on this morning. I've had time to write this post because i'm sat in the canteen until the maintenance electrician sorts it. I'll be here a while from experience. A grand total of five armour strands are...

    Opening out chimney breast.

Hi all, Started knocking out our kitchen today, begrudgingly. Pivotal to what we want to do in the kitchen is open out this chimney breast, build it out slightly (stud) and put a free standing 90cm range in the middle. On taking off the plaster, I was surprised to find the solider...

Saw this and thought of you

Not been on here in ages but as the title says.... We've acquired a new unit recently, and this beauty happens to be in my workshop to be. Its fed from an Ancient Memway board (3x 20A BS3036) which in turn is fed from a 100A BS88 switchfuse. On the plus side, the ELFI isn't horrendous. :)

    Resistance in parallel

Hi Guys, I'm currently revising for my Unit 203 (2330) Exam Going through the book "Electrical Installation Calculations" I'm struggling on a question. "Calculate the value of a resistor which, when connected in parallel with the given resistor, will produce the value asked for."...

    Bahco Tools

Has anyone else noticed a further decline in the quality of Bahco tools? I recently purchased a pair of Bent long nose pliers and the handles failed within a month and began to slip. Side cutters do not seem to be lasting as long as they should and their range of VDE screwdrivers are just...

    TRV / Bypass question

As you will be able to tell, I have very little idea what I'm talking about when it comes to plumbing work. I am far more electrically biased and as we all know the two don't mix. Anyway.... I'm doing the bathroom out and have taken the radiator off, this radiator was the only one in the...

    Lottery idiots

We've all heard about Michael Carroll but I never thought i'd meet a real life one. Was speaking to a maintenance electrican in a factory the other day, he'd won over 1.4 million on the lottery two years ago and blown in all in 6 months on hookers and gambling. He still lives in a council...

Does sport still need a slot on the news?

I'll admit I'm biased when it comes to this because I have very little interest in most spectator sports. But, why does sport still require a slot on the news? There are plenty of news channels dedicated to the subject so it seems superfluous. The last few times i've had the news on i've...

    3 Phase PSCC

Good Morning, My test meter does not allow me to measure between two phases of a 3 phase supply for determining PSCC. I understand that the thing to do is test between each phase and neutral and then double the highest value to reach the PSCC (PFC in a 3-Ph as it will be the highest)...

    Desoutter Air Drill Chuck

Is anyone familiar with the type of chuck shown in the picture? I bought the drill from a popular auction site thinking it was a small 3/8" keyless chuck, but on arrival its not quite what I expected. It seems like some sort of quick release chuck, i'm just needing to know wheter an...

    Air Tools

Hi, I've recently started a new job which requires the use of air tools where possible. I've been able to loan some budget tools to put me on (clarke) but pretty soon i'm going to need to get my own. I have to admit i'm a bit lost as most of the brand names seem to be unfamiliar to me...

    FEW 12 Coin Trapped

Apologies if the terminology is wrong here. My FEW12 is making a loud noise on the spin cycle, it sounds as if there is a coin trapped between the drum and the plastic inner tub. Can anyone advise me if this is DIY repairable and how I might go about sorting it. Many thanks in advance.
