We have an old fireplace which has been plasterboarded and plastered over. In front of this we have a wood burning stove, with a pipe which goes up to the original chimney in the roof. (outside the wall up until the chimney in the attic).
The plaster behind the stove is cracking.
From tapping...
Hi,
I have seen a few posts about similar online but was hoping hat somwone can settle my nerves as some places say, nothing to worry about. But other places suggest structual issues..
I have just bought a house 6 months ago and have recently taken off ceiling paper and repainted. Now parralel...
Hi, I have removed some bad plaster and found a vertical crack in the brickwork of the first floor party wall. It looks like there is a plank of wood resting on top of the highest cracked brick at ceiling level. Could this be the cause? Why is this here as it looks like it might go into the...
Hi,
We had a kitchen extension completed about 12 months ago now. Not long after works were finished cracks started to appear in the plaster. I understand this to be fairly normal as the plastering/works settle.
More and more cracks are now starting to appear. I have noticed a new fairly...
Hi. I’ve had a good look through all the posts but can’t find anything that matches my problem.
I have a 5m x 2.5m single skin brick detached garage with an apex tiled roof. The garage sits on a concrete block foundation which is at the top of a fairly steep garden and public footpath. One side...
I have looked around the forum but I can't find a similar case to mine. I caused a gate valve to leak in the airing cupboard. A small amount of water leaked before I could get the valve repaired. The water flowed to an old crack in the ceiling where it dripped through the artex causing a...
I am about to buy my first home, it's a 3 bed semi, built in 1937.
The house has a couple of cracks that are worrying me because this is all new to me.
I only got the valuation survey, and that came back ok. I'm wondering if I should seek a structural engineer to come out and see the house...
Hi Guys,
I noticed yesterday that there is a crack in my french door, it looks like it happened when the door has swung open and caught the window sill (see attached pictures).
Any idea how best to treat this or any idea on the repair costs, if indeed it can be repaired? Additionally it would...
Hi,
I'm looking for advice on repairing the edging mortar on a slate roof. I've attached a couple of photos below to illustrate the problem. It is the edging between the roof slates and a granite gable end wall. The roof is 12 years old. The mortar has cracked along its full length allowing...
hello, I hope you can help advise on what to do about hairline crack we have found.
In our ground floor extension where we have our kitchen we noticed a crack (1-2 mm diameter) going through the plasterwork. We found this when removing the wall units and can see it goes up to the coving...
I live in an 1890's end terrace which has a half cellar. The wall which separates the cellar has developed a step crack, spanning about 4ft in height. It follows the mortar, although one brick has split. The joints in the cellar are a little eroded at points, and I think the crack is perhaps...
Hi all,
I'm looking at buying a house with a diagonal crack, ~1/4" up the external wall of the passageway between the 2 terraces.
The surveyor thought it was historic so shouldn't be an issue for mortgage. But I do want to tidy it up for resaleability, and before that get the leak fixed...
