I am looking to repair the external architrave to my front door. Its my last attempt before ripping out and replacing with a composite (which I would really, rather not do) and im hoping that I can repair, rather than replace the architrave.
I have my wet rott hardner and epoxy exterior wood...
My commercial grade Numatic hoover has stopped working. I checked switch and capacitor and all seems working fine.
Machine was working and then stopped. With new fepa filter was under a bit of overloading but I only used for few minutes a time to use with wall chaser.
I do not see any other...
Hi Guys
First post on this forum, looking for some advice and guidance.
Currently tidying up the appearance of my parents house.
It is an ex local authority semi detached house built in the 1930/40’s (i think).
Most of the house is rendered apart from the lower section of wall where 5 rows...
I found out that the ceilings on my first floor were renovated but the laths were kept and pins were used instead of screws.
My first question. Is it worth to remove the old plasterboard attached to lath and replace with a fresh one and maybe just tape and joint or new plaster?
Why the lats...
Hi guys,
Our backdoor patio (backdoor) handle has progressively been getting worse. anytime someone pulls in the door to close, the handle will come off (shown in one of the photos). All we can do right now is jiggle it back in. the door is either a double glazed or triple glazed glass panels...
Hi all,
We have a brick wall in our garden, which kind of supports a walkway above it, but it's in need if some TLC. I think standard pointing will do for the most if it, but there is one bit that I'm not sure if just filling it with mortar is ok.
I've attached a pic of the offending peice of...
Hi DIY-ers,
I want to repair the wooden frame around a badly installed lock. I am happy for the lock to remain, but am not sure how best to fill the badly carved out gaps in the doorframe around it.
See pictures to understand. The largest part is 3cm wide X 2cm deep.
I've thought of cutting...

Hi,
Got a cast iron downpipe with a broken collar, when it rains quite hard the water spills out of the broken section.
I know it may be best to replace but is there a way that a good quality repair can be facilitated? The back of the pipe is rusty but no leaks as far as I can see.
Thanks...
Would a bituminous roofing felt adhesive be suitable for priming a (cut) tarmac edge, before laying some cold repair tarmac down adjacent to it? It has to be a better job if a primer or edge sealant is used but the spray-on stuff is quite pricey.
I was thinking of using something like...
Managed to get a small hole in the kitchen sink (see photo), which is leaking underneath.
Unfortunately the sink can't be easily replaced as it's fully integrated within a granite worktop.
Just wondering what's the best way to repair this?
Would applying plumbers mait underneath the hole keep...
How do I replace and fix this?
The base trim in my basement bathroom was soft them molded, clearly it wasn’t typical moisture. I demolished the area and found wet framing, and then realized the waste line neoprene/silicone coupling or sleeve was leaking just slightly each time the upstairs...
Hi Guys,
Could anyone please assist me on the best method for filling in gaps between coving corners. Sadly, my plasterer could not level the walls or ceilings in my home when re-plastering the home. The condition of the walls and ceiling were much worse and out of level by far, though, things...
I recently bought a 2005 1.8 Volvo S40. When I was buying the car everything seemed to be fine. The car has done 87,000 miles.
When I got the car home I was driving it about for a bit I reved the car and noticed a plume of smoke, it was unclear whether it is blue or white. It was a cold enough...
Hi Guys,
I just nail gunned my skirting and architraves around the home and now would like to fill the small holes.
I was contemplating using a ready filler such as Polyfilla all-purpose or Gyproc Easi-Fill as I have heard this is just as good. But I worry this is only for use on plaster...
Hi I'm in a spot of trouble, last night I opened my window to let some air in but as I've closed the window the hinges jammed and bent.
After some research I realise that these hinges aren't expensive or difficult to replace but my questions are which hinges do I get and will the new hinges in...
Arrived home tonight to discover that my 3-1/2 year old son has managed to strike our TV screen with a wooden handle - crunch!!!
Is the TV now destined for the dustbin or is it actually possible to economically repair.
Excuse my ignorance: It's a Samsung UE55KU6000 LED TV flat screen, 2 year old.
Hello,
Straight to the point! I've just bought my first property and I've stripped the loft back and uncovered what I think is inadequately supported purlins in the center (where they meet) where the previous owner has cut away structure to open up the space.

Ill get some pictures added asap, but untill then im hoping to repair a black laminate worktop that has been scuffed and lightly scrached to the point where some areas are looking more of a misty grey colour. Is there any kind of polish/product that can get the worktop back to black?
Hi all, was hoping for some advice from the forum.
Getting a new patio done and while excavating around the sewer pipe I noticed that the clay collar around the cast iron soil pipe was cracked and leaking. (which explains the damp we've been getting on the inside wall)
My dilemma is now weather...
