Evening all,

After a cordless drill for general DIY use and hoping to have it for many years without having to change so want the best bit of kit for the £100 budget.

I've had a look at screwfix to see what's available and there are a few DeWalt and Makita's.

I've heard metal gears and chucks give better longevity but I'm struggling to fond these details.

Battery life is not super critical as It's unlikely to be being used for hours at a time.

These caught my eye:

Any input or other suggestions appreciated :?: :?: :?:

a battery unused will in general fail quicker than a regularly used battery
little use around 2 to 4 years before it runs out off use full charge
you need 2ah plus for a 5 year use full life on average

Suprised that BA didn't try and push you down the "light to medium trade" route ;)

Any of the big names do similar drill for £100, but you'd be best off getting one with a li-ion battery, these will hold a charge for months so perfect for occasional use.

£100 isn't a lot for a cordless, you'd be better off saving your pennies for a bit longer so you can afford something decent

You can get a 18 volt combi drill with one Lion battery for £100 at screwfix they charge up in about 30 minuites, so when it runs flat time for a coffee break.
Ive got Bosch drills and my 18V combi came from screwfix it cost £180 in the sale but came with 3x1.3ah Lion battery packs, its a good workhorse of a drill but had to be sent back under warranty last year for repair this took a 10 day turnaround had to go back to my trusty green corded Bosch drill while the cordless was in for repair.
I have the 14.4 volt combi aswell but the 10mm chuck wont take the big holesaw arbours for downlighters.

I got an 18v li-ion Hitatchi for £100 with 2 batteries from screwfix about 4 months ago, seems a good bit of kit. I have a number of hitatchi tools, I like them, but the drill is made in china, the rest are from japan!

I hate niCad batteries.

just had a cordless 18v hammer drill turn to junk due to battery going weak.

to be fair a nicad thats well looked after will last years although in general 3-5 years is a reasonable expectation
of course quality storage use all affect the life s may be less or more
