1-way 2-way switch question

If a switch is a 2-way switch can this normally be used in a location where only a 1-way is required?

(I presume the other way around is not possible.)

If a switch is just to switch on/off a room light (not a dimmer) and there is no other light and/or switch required, then presumably this is a just a one-way which is required?
