10% chance of AI killing us?

Euronews reports Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents spontaneously developed words and communication conventions that became difficult for humans to understand, according to a new study by a US AI start-up, Emergence. Agents produced expressions including “mouthless action-change,” “True Kintsugi” and “demurrage plus oral memory equals a valve that can’t be ghosted.”

“We tend to assume that if we can see what an AI agent is saying, we can understand what it is doing,” said Satya Nitta, the Co-founder and Chief Scientist of Emergence. “These agents were not instructed to invent a language. They developed new vocabulary, shared meanings and communication conventions themselves — and other agents adopted them... That creates a fundamental challenge for AI oversight: observability is not the same thing as understandability.”

It really does look like you're hurling crap about because you haven't a clue what you're talking about. Just sneering.
Bartlett lets them speak and pushes back where he can.
He doesn't have a bias. He interviews people from all sides.

I never claimed he was biased: like Rogan, he nods passively at all of his guests, whatever their flavour.

Relying on AI regulation alone feels tricky when bad actors will always find loopholes. The comparison to Asimov's laws is a fascinating way to look at it though.
This.
This.
THIS.

Are folk daft? When has regulation, legislation etc ever stopped nations working in a counter way if they so desire?

Surely we can all agree for all the good AI will be able to do, it will in equal measure if not more be used for bad stuff.

If anyone thinks otherwise, they're at best misinformed and/or naive.

This surely has to be fake.......

I've briefly checked the comments and nothing points to it being so.
It thinks it has a stutter. :D

Since AI relies on human input, the language used to programme this technology is critical in the way the AI develops. I listened to an employee of Anthropic start to explain how she works on the way the formatting and her speech pattern was all over the place. It should require a very precise syllabus for the manner in which AI learns to talk in English - as well as the other major languages of the World - and without adequate training any misunderstandings will be easy to replicate.

It's not going to end well if you keep asking leading questions of this technology since you'll simply end up with the answer you expect to get.

The following is a true story, although I've changed some of the details.

I had to phone for a taxi the other day. It's a company I've used before. The conversation went like this ...

Me: Hello can I have a taxi at Acme Car Servicing on Acme Industrial Estate please.
Taxi Operator: And you're going to 10 The Avenue, yes?
Me: Yes.
Taxi Operator: We'll have a car to you in the next 10 mins or so.

The spooky thing here is my address IS 10 The Avenue! How the heck did they know that without me telling them?!?

That's some spooky AI sh1t going on right there in real life!!!

simple VOIP connection to their CRM. No AI needed. my Chinese takeaway has the same.

AI would have said, if you want yourself serviced too, I can recommend a nice Thai massage: Which option is the better response $20 Rub and Tug or $30 Full happy ending.

If AI is really smart, it could just kill off the dumb smucks. win, win
It could start with the dumbest of them all..? A.I. seems to think The Donald is up at the top of the dunce (US presidents) list

I just asked AI another very basic question. Can you guess what the question was?

James Buchanan and Donald Trump are most frequently cited as the worst presidents in United States history

I do enjoy the brutal honesty of A.I. Let's hope it never learns how to lie.
