Im doing a garage conversion, the drawings from the architect have come through and hes specifying 100x38mm studs for internal walls, is this the norm, I thought 100 x 50 was standard

Ha Ha,
Seriously thougth are these 100x 38mm studs readily available? or should I just tell him to change the drawing and use standard material. I dont give a monkeys what I use but I dont want to be paying over the odds to satisfy the drawing.

100x38 are readily available but like nose says just use 100x47 as more readily available and you cant get wrong for upgrading your spec in this case.

Think your architect is getting a bit confused. (wouldn't be the first time) Standard nominal size would be 50x100 but what you would get in CLS would be 38x89. It seems to me your architect is quoting the nominal breadth (100mm) but the CLS depth. (38mm)
