Ashley, given the number of Q's of this nature you've posted over the past day or so, why don't you tell us what you are doing, exactly, and let us advise from there. Your Q's do indicate a knowledge gap about electrics and the answers to some Q's like this can be very dependant on the context in which they are to be placed. Are you planning a rewire? Refurb? Trying to replace a CU? Give us an idea so we can assess the best way to help.

so you aren't just putting up wall lights. You're doing several different jobs, some of which may be related, I can't really tell, and you are asking random questions as and when they occur to you, and in the process displaying an almost total lack of basic knowledge.
This is a dangerous way to proceed. Asking random questions as and when they occur to you is haphazard and unstructured. What if there is something that you don't know, which is very important to know, but you fail to ask about it because you have absolutely no idea that the subject exists, and therefore absolutely no idea that you have a hole in your knowledge?
Please put aside any thoughts of doing any work at all until you have invested the time and effort in acquiring a proper understanding of how it all works.
