sounds like its trying to fire so you must be looking at a fuel issue, very difficult to diagnose over the internet though

hi thanks for your reply
i appreciate that its nigh on impossible to diagnose what it is!
im kinda on the same idea as you ie fuel just hoping for some suggestions and fixes to what i can do to the seperate components of the fuel system to try either rule things out or hopefully get a fix :D
it doesnt cost me owt to keep trying lol well apart from a brand new battery to give me the ooomph to keep trying

Something to try.....
See the third pic with the fuel filter (non primer type - sorry)!
Undo the small hex screw on the top. Borrow a cream jug (unknowingly) from 'er indoors, and fill it with diesel.
Fill up the filter canister with the diesel until its absolutely brim, screw the plug back in and then try for a start up.
Return cream jug (via dishwasher) to kitchen cupboard and no one will know!
John :)

pmsl burnerman!!!
the filter is full to the brim and iv already used certain kitchen crockery to fill it until it spilled out, however didnt have the sense to return it, never mind via the dishwasher!
therefore if i never respond back to this post again i would like you to assume that i have met a very unpleasant end at the hands of "er indoors" and im not ignorant.
i have also sucked diesel through the pipes to the pump and it is getting to the top of the injectors ( that cost "er indoors" about 3 t-towels)
i havnt yet tried to take out one of the injectors and run it whilst connected to see if i have enough pressure. mainly because i dont want a hole in my hand from high pressure fuel and secondly because i dont believe i can get away with any more t-towels to clean up with after ;)

So if you crank the engine with one of the injector pipes loose, you should get one hell of a squirt of fuel, right?
Is there anywhere on the injector pump that has a one wire electrical connection (not the gizmo on the top) that could possibly be the engine stop solenoid?
Most injector pumps of this era had them.
John :)

there are 3 wires coming out of the rear of the pump but cant get access to them and have no idea what they are for! if i disconnect one of the nuts at the top of the injector i get a bit of fuel coming out at low pressure but am i right in thinking that the pressure actually builds up inside the injectors???
i was planning on taking an injector out and leave it connected to see if i got flame thrower style pressure!

oh forgot to mention as we were on about kitchen things a little advice

dont top up a battery and leave on charge on kitchen worktops!!!!!!! i think the acid burn looks quite bespoke but my gert thinks i have to fit a new kitchen!!

turning out to be very expensive what with new battery, t-towels and possibly full new kitchen :(
thank god im a joiner lol i cant go wrong with the kitchen

iv got a little 1.9 diesel vw polo im breaking for spares at the moment and thought the return hoses look very similiar so i just took them off low and behold would you believe it the injectors are exactly the same?!?!?!?!?!?! vag and ford using same parts!?!?!?!?! so iv swapped them all over and the van fired up all be it for 20 seconds     the battery is dead again now so its back on charge and i will update tomorrow when iv tried it again :D

well that didnt work either so im close to giving up lol.
so my question is:-
does anyone know if the escort endura engine from same year will fit?
as iv got the offer of 1 including gearbox for £100 and its running fine.
cheaper than the pump if it is indeed that and believe it or not its easier to fit than the pump what with all that nasty timing belt shannanigans and the total lack of space on that side of block to work

cheers

Cracking the injector nuts off, only proves diesel is up there, your car sounds lazy, with you starting from quite a rest, maybe the timing belt slipped a cog?.

Try leaving one of the injector nuts loose while you try to start it, a good engine will fire up on 3 cyls

Maybe even worth giving it a tow start, spins the engine over quicker,

Someone already mentioned the oil, but might also be worth giving it an oil change, new oil (correct grade) can help cranking speed
