In my head, I can see myself telling me "the smaller cable it is, the less power you're allowed to use" :LOL:
 
The limiting factor in this case is most likely the B6 MCB in the consumer unit rather than the cable.

You don’t want to plug a hoover or circular saw into that socket but all the gear you mentioned is perfectly fine.

Indeed. 1.5mm² cable would happily carry the current of two or three "hoovers" or circular saws, but a 6A MCB would not be at all happy about that :-)
