Is it physically possible to connect 2.5mm SWA Cable To A 13A Mains Plug?

Also, how do you earth the armour?

I have a garden outdoor IP66 socket already fitted and wanted to run an SWA cable under patio slabs and soil to another IP66 socket at the other end of the garden under a gazebo.

Thought if I used a plug to connect to the existing socket, I could therefore isolate the extension part by unplugging when gazebo not in use.

Thanks

Not possible to directly connect an 2.5mm2 SWA directly to a plug CORRECTLY.

You may be able to do it via an outdoor junction box, with a short flex and plug coming from it, and the armour suitably earthed via a metal gland...

But should be hardwired in properly, safely, waterproof, RCD protection as necessary - too many variables here to give a proper answer about what you should do - this may not be a DIY job.

Out of interest, rather than using swa cable would it be possible to use normal outdoor type flex but feed it through some form of armoured conduit preferably plastic so doesn't need earthing?

Also, Risteard, what would be the proper solution? Instead of the junction box

The easiest option is to connect the new SWA directly to the existing socket - however whether that's possible depends on the size of the cable and the MCB that covers that particular circuit.
There are other options but it all depends on how the existing socket is connected.
