Hi,
we bought our boiler (GlowWorm 24HX) around 2005. When we had it serviced recently the electrode fell to bits. On getting the 'correct' replacement we found it didn't fit, the ceramic insulator around the electrode is too long and fouls on a shoulder of some kind in the heat exchanger..
Our gas man has been in touch with Glow worm who have confirmed the heat exchanger was updated in 2006 but that the model number of the electrode was never changed and are not being very helpful. So I'm guessing this is one of those non-backward compatible updates unfortunately
All the suppliers we've contacted have the part with the new length - I've also trawled ebay and sent requests to people selling old/reconditioned parts if they can measure them and bought the one with the oldest most battered looking box (which was the new length) - no luck yet..
The boiler works perfectly apart from this so its frustrating to scrap it.. I'd also like to wait another year or two to see if the 'next gen' house heating thoughts settle down if I can.
My slim hopes are
1) someone here might have seen this and know a workaround with the new part
2) someone here might have a really old electrode part for this boiler in a box somewhere
3) someone here might know a place/company that scraps old boilers that might keep these parts
4) some other idea...?
I need one where the ceramic insulation on the electrode side is ~16mm as for the broken part in the picture below rather than ~20mm for the shiny new one!
Thanks for any help!
Trevor
