Just exposed the mains pipe in my kitchen to replace a leaking stopcock, and I expected the mains to be 3/4" galvanised steel but it looks bigger.

That's steel at the bottom and 22mm copper in the top coming out of a reducer.

Do you reckon a 28mm stop cock would go on that without an imperial olive?

You'll need to start the job early in the morning to have time shut water off outside take off the old cock carefullly and measure it all up and then make decision you may need to rethread the steel pipe to take a fitting.Bob

You may have a problem unscrew old stopcock, I would repair stopcock if it only the packing gland need repacking.

I would leave old stopcock and stick another stopcock above

Thanks guys. The pipe took the 28mm stop cock compression fitting like a boss.

This is the inside of our old stop cock. Lovely stuff.
