If I lay these on bare floorboards and obviously right up to the staircase, the last step will be that much higher, possibly causing people to trip up. not only that, I cant think of a neat trim solution to border the last step.

what the accepted way of overlaying floors adjacent to staircases?

[replacing the original boards is not an option, I want the added layer of sound insulation of the whole upper floor and have already got the wood.]

thanks b.

you can get a sort of nosing, rounded over the front edge and of a thickness to match the boards. Sorry I don't know the correct name, but I have some here, I had to pry it off to repair a damaged section of flooring. I suppose it might have been made up on site.

is better in hardwood as it will get scuffed and kicked a bit.

hmm , will get the router out then , yet another 20 quid on a new bit that I'll use just once
