Firstly apologies if my terminology isn't right....I have a cold water pipe under my sink with a 'y' piece adapter feeding my washing machine and an outside tap. The previous owners of the house left a dishwasher behind which it turns out they had running from a hot-water feed (not sure why) however the dishwasher has died and the wife 'needs' a new one..... Obviously I don't want to attach it to the hot water feed, so question is is it ok to connect the washing machine, outside tap and dishwasher to 1 feed? And if it is how is the best way to go about it? I couldn't find a 3-way adapter, which is why I'm thinking it might not be best practice?

The useless way would be to get another Y adaptor and connect it to the outlet of the existing one.

The proper way is to remove the adaptor, connect the outside tap using fixed pipework, the required check valve and internal isolator, and have 2 appliance connectors fitted.
