I need to lay 4 400x400 slabs and half at the end where the post mate is. I was just wondering how many tins of these I would need? I have never worked with mortar before and wouldn’t trust myself with ratios if I was buying sand and cement separately! Also (this will sound silly), can I mix with a stick or should I get a paddle attachment for the drill? Thanks in advance.

Better off with a bag of ready mixed from Wickes or BandQ. Just add water and mix with a trowel - in a bucket, on the floor or on a polythene sheet if you haven't got somewhere you can make a mess.

Don't mix it all in one go so if it ends up sloppy you can add more to dry it up.
