Hello all....

Just trying to work out if I can use a 5amp JB on a lighting circuit. It will have 1200w total, So if I'm correct: 1200 / 230 = 5.22 A, so a 6A MCB is ok.

My question is this. Is it ok to use 5A junction boxes for the lighting circuit? Or is this a no-no?

The 20a ones are too big and won't fit through the downlighter holes!

Cheers

You should probably be OK, as the JB will not be carrying the entire circuit current, but the JB should be rated at least as big as the circuit protection (fuse / MCB)

The 20A ones are just easier to use IMO

Never seen a 5amp one - I don't believe they exist.

Probably a site selling them saying they are suiatable for a 5amp cct?

They are indeed & all the white JB's I've come across have nipples on the end of the grub screws that restrict capacity.

AFAICT, there are many electrical items and accessories that are still labelled 5A, but are suitable for 6A too.

those little ones are far too annoying. Get a 20A JB, you can really get your fingers in.
