Hi had a quote to move supply cable from going through old wood door frame, moved up 6" going through wall to existing meter shortening cable by 8" £700 plus vat mmmmmmmmmmmm
If the cable is old then the DNO may replace it (or more likely a small section) rather than risk damaging it by trying to move it, in which case that price isn't unreasonable.
Remember they either have to do it live or cut the cable elsewhere (which may involve digging a hole, working up a pole ETC). So you are talking about two blokes trained in live working (H&S generally requires two people for dangerous jobs), possibly a mini digger (probablly with it's own driver) to dig up the service cable etc.
There probably is an aspect of monopoly rip-off in there but the way our electricity distribution networks are designed does not make them cheap to work on
I paid £180 for my work from the local supplier which was the costs for the new meter box, hockey stick ducting, supply cable ducting, warning tape and a 100AMP DP isolator fitted in the meter box.
They cut the cable as they couldnt pull it out of the existing trunking and then jointed it onto a new piece and into the new meter box which was nearer the road so the cable was shorter.
