63 amp connection and a pin called pilot

I have a outside socket which is rated at 63amp with rcd switch on also ip67 rated.

On the socket there is 4 pin connections L, N, E and a small pin called pilot is this just an additional earth connection?

Wow - In 22 years (12 of which were in heavy industry) I have never seen one of those !!!!!!!!!!

See them quite often, more often with nothing connected to the pilot pin.
