How mature are the (reared for killing) pheasant you dog retrieves?

Less than a year but they lived every day as a free bird. Some even survive till the end of the season and go on to breed in the wild. How about the Chickens, Cows and pigs that you eat. Cuddled to death after a life roaming free all their life are they? Any survive to get another chance?
