Absolute safest way to wall mount TV on plasterboard

Looks like the bracket they give has a bit of depth to it, and I take it that ends up inside the wall

Cut a square of plasterboard that will be hidden behind the tv, out from between two adjacent studs

Cut a square of hardwood 18mm ply at least 3 times the height of the bracket and as wide as the gap between studs
Glue and screw battens to the edge of the ply face, on the sides that touch the studs

Mount the ply by screwing through the battens sideways into the studs, such that the ply is deep inside the wall and the perfect depth that the TV will be flush with the wall when on the bracket

Hang the TV hiding the hole in the wall. Use the internals of the wall as a service void for cables because nothing ruins a flush look faster that an hdmi lead snaking its way up from the DVR below to behind the TV

The bracket they supply folds up to fit within the back of the TV itself - It's really neat, though there isn't enough swivel for my uses. I've actually bought the same TV

Update:

Those Geefix fixings....I drilled my first hole and hit a batten, tried a second hole, metal stanchion. third hole - bingo! another batten

There is a small void between the plasterboard and the batten, so direct fix is out as the plasterboard will flex and I now have a 1" hole so a corefix fitting is out of the question

So I now have four 1" holes and need some way to fill them with some kind of spacer. I'm torn between widening the holes a tiny bit to 28mm and then using an old curtain pole as spacers, otherwise buying some nylon or aluminium 1" rod and cutting that down

Any other ideas?

Am I missing a trick?

If you're hitting things to fix to, can't you attach to those?

I have battens, but I have a void as well. If I fix my bracket with coach bolts for instance then I will be tightening the bracket and crushing the void. I'm looking for a spacer to directly compress the bracket onto. In theory I could do it with a dozen or so large washers, I'm thinking that a wooden or aluminium rod would be preferable

Am I incorrect about the bracket and the crush?
