Curiously and potentially off topic :oops: I've just finished reading a book on the history of the London UndergrounD. It transpires that post WW2 the UK invited johnny foreigner (predominantly for the West Indies) over here to drive the trains since the white honkey British workforce had become too expensive and discerning. This might have been the thin end of the wedge, coupled with the expansion of London due to the railways.
