But you're happy to involve a so-called "professional" who advises you to break the law and to ignore the wiring regulations because the old ways were good enough in his day....
we know you said:See i agreed with most of what you said but then the bodge statement comes out. You know nothing about me.....
So If i got an electrican in to add a socket in a room such as a kitchen and i only had mcbs they would have to do loads of other work just to add it such as changing an mcb for rcbo or if not then some other long winded solutions, running new circuit if needed etc etc. Is that really the rules these days?
Far from it. The reason that I and other regulars post here is to help the DIY'er who respects the current regulations and doesn't want to bodge.so don't assume diy means bodge.
But things are moving on and if enter into a contract with a registered sparks, if things go wrong you have more customer power now than ever before.Plenty qualified sparkies bodge.
But if you do want to install a light or a socket every regular poster here will do their best to help you - and the advise will be in accordance with current regulations. One thing for sure, i won't be paying anyone an extortionate amount to fit a socket in my house. Something i can't do yes but certainly not a light or socket.
Every one?every regular poster here will do their best to help you.
Is that really the rules these days?

i'm glad I know how to do it myself. Madness.
How can you claim you know how to do it yourself if you don't know what the regulations are?
Don't wish to upset anyone so don't start your pretentious ranting at me please.

Whether or not we agree with the regulations is neither here nor there. The fact of matter is they exist and until they are amended they have to be worked to.
#26 on the list.they had young children who had an unhealthy interest in socket outlets.
