Hi all,

First post and first attempted spur.

I've bought all the things I need having done my research (I think!) but when i came to wiring the cable to the socket I noticed that while the existing electrical cabling is solid core (copper) i've bought "flex" - specifically this - https://www.screwfix.com/p/time-3183tq-white-3-core-2-5mm-flexible-cable-5m-coil/207jy

Does it matter the cable isn't one copper strand? I've attached a photo to show the difference - the new cable is on the left.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Electrically your 2.5mm flex is fine. Mechanically it is sometimes a problem getting a good bite with the terminal screws on mixed cable types.

I have achieved a good connection without ferrules by stripping back the flex conductor to twice the depth of the terminal, twisting them together and doubling over. Then I place the flex in the terminal first with the solid cores on top, finally tightening the screw.
This way the flex is trapped between the terminal body and the solid cores and makes for a very reliable connection.
