Hi all,

Just like some info regarding the external wall iam decreasing the width of my window its currently 1600mm the new door will be 1200mm and will be left with a 200ish each side lintel is in place wider so no probs there, would it be a safe practice to add studwork onto the existing brickwork to make the width the correct size instead of brick work up im not convident of a line of bricks on top of each other not staggaered if that makes sence.

Thanks for your time gents

It's not impossible , a lot depends on the external finish. If it's render then yes it's possible to fix exmet (expanded metal lath) to the exterior and then render. If it's brick work then you would be best setting the studding back from the brick edge and forming some sort of panel, maybe in timber or ply to complement the french doors kind of like a wide architrave. Also don't forget to insulate the void and a vapour barrier may be a good idea too.
That said I'd still rather have brickwork toothed in but it's your house.
