There must be different opinions on this "look under the floor" thing.
In my view, IF the house has a simple ring (with some spurs on it), looking under the floor will give you some good clues on the route of the cables. It may also show you if the circuit is in a muddle. Continuity tests will help confirm what you see.
If you can re-configure the ring, you can put all your sockets on an enlarged ring, and maybe do away with some of the old spurs.
This would give a good solution.
