I want to install a socket in a small utility space which houses the gas boiler.
The only supply is a fused spur for the boiler. Can I take a cable from this to a double socket which I intend to use for a burglar alarm and a tumble drier.

Only if the fused connection unit is either part of a full ring final circuit(RFC) ie not a spur from the RFC or part of radial circuit.
If it is a spur from a RFC, you may be able to change the fuse rating to 13A then run to double socket, then spur from that back to your boiler with a 3A.
