Advice needed regarding staining veneered MDF

Hi All,

I want to replace the drawer and door fronts of our bathroom vanity unit and can order some pre-cut veneered MDF. I'm looking for a dark walnut / oak but unfortunately the darkest walnut veneered MDF I've found is too light. Can I stain this or should I order oak veneered instead and stain that. I'll then be adding a matt coat of varnish / lacquer to add some moisture protection.

Links to the possible veneered doors might help. Do you mean flat veneered door without any moldings?
