Define cheap.

Define expensive

What sort of price should I expect to pay for bottom to middle of the range

Any reccommended units?

£9K do you??

Plethora of units - good, bad, indifferent - out there, but without a price guide what does it matter what we recommend?

And what are you expecting for your money?

Correction.
I posted a perfectly sensible reply.
Fact that you know jack Diddly about the subject does not make it wrong?

For the record, our last DVR was £9K

My idea of cheap is not necessarily the same as others.

And if you look closer, you'll find it took the OP a week to return back to check his original question.

Stick to fitting noddy kit Mr Yale

In answer to the OP contact a local electrician or CCTV specialist.

Jeez,
And the benefit of that would be?

OP has posted little in way of guidelines so just simply reeling of a list of names will achieve little.

I understand that and the OP should certainly have been more forthcoming but since the answer you give can be seen by many people then a general answer along the lines of..
for this budget I would reccomend this and for this budget I recommend this. would have helped many people.

He used the word cheap so it wouldn't harm to suggest both the cheapest kit you think is still worthwhile and some other kit thats more but worth the extra.

You obviously didn't mean to come accross 'clever' so I apologise.

And surprisingly, when a 'cheap' price of say £450 is proposed the reply is usually one of surprise and shock that it is so high.

remember cheap tat gives tat results, can't have it both ways.

I think £450 is probaly too cheap to be honest and people wanting any worthwhile result should expect to pay £900 installed and with a warranty.
For a cctv system to be worthwhile it needs to work 24/7 so in low light as well as daytime. The recording needs to be high quality and the equipment needs to be reliable.

Decide whether you want continuous smooth recording ( as a TV picture ) or a series of snapshots taken 4 or 5 times a second. The snap shots take up less disc space and can provide clearer more recognisable facial images.

Pay a lot for a very large and reliable hard drive and record all the time or pay less for a smaller reliable drive and record only when motion is detected in the field of view.

Feeding camera direct to motion detecting module and via a video delay to the recorder will record the view just before and during the detection of the motion. ( motion detection reacts and starts the recording a very short time after motion begins and without the delay to the recorder the initial motion will not be recorded )

A PC with additional large disc and software can do this.

It depends what he wants.

Does he want a web browser interface? This usually pushes the cost up.

I believe screwfix do some budget kit.

Google is also a great tool.

Thanks for that :!:

If somone posted the question that i did and I was in the trade, I would presume he did not want to spend a great deal, from £100 :?: upwards giving the Apsolute basic recording capilbilitys that a recorder can do.

Sorry for not giving full depth information but I thought you guys would be the ones to advise

Back to my original question with some extra questions:

Supply part only, perhaps motion detect recording, able to copy info onto USB, not linked to network, good enough quality to be able to play back I see images. As I'm not the an installer I'm not sure what else I should be asking????

p.s If someone asked me how much to install a basic Platform Lift would be I would say £13000-£15000 because I'm in that trade ;)
