I would only be looking at using 2 cameras running back to the recorder, the other houses are across the Close :LOL:

Baluns are in essence connectors/converters changing twisted pair to coax.

Regarding DPA - an area of many a debate. Normally, domestic CCTV is exempt from the DPA requirements. However, you having a camera connected that is not on your property, could be argued as no longer strictly domestic.
Chances of anyone worrying are remote but you never know.
