Hi All,

New to the forums ... glad to be here and hope to give and get lots of DIY help :)

We have just purchased our first home and am considering either getting new wardrobes or build my own BIC.

I am from South Africa and don't really know the DIY market over here so sorry for the basic questions:
1 - Is it cheaper to buy wardrobes than build your own (not refering to labour, just material)
2 - Where could you buy good cheap wood from (chipboard, pine, oak?)

Thanks for now
Cheers
Victor

If you go to one of the sheds, like wickes who will sell pretty much all you would need, you'll get an idea of cost for a basic diy mfc panels and fixings/fittings.

For solid wood try your local timber merchants.

That said Ikea do some pretty cheap wardrobes if you search their website.

Blup

Yes, look at Ikea.
The PAX range of wardrobes are very versatile, they have multiple features you can choose and different size options.

I was going to build my own until I found them then decided why bother make wonky wardrobes when I could just buy the carcass from Ikea lol

I bought ikea doors and built frames to accommodate , best of both options.

Yes, I think I may do the same. I want the sliding style doors so hope it comes with the runners and rails and can then use MDF for the frames

Thanks everyone for the feedback ...
