Air in System - Could it be a scaled up Oil Boiler?

Bubbles in kettle are mainly water vapour although water can hold less air when hot.

Unless system is pumping over at f & e tank the air in the water in the system would be depleted and not renewed. Kettling gives a lot of noise I think.

As far as positioning room stat is concerned 1.5m from rad should be OK. You can set it a bit higher so that you get a comfortable temp further away from the rad.

Don't see how present set up could have a bearing on air problem unless you are getting pumping over. This will not happen all the time but can do when HW circuit is closed by satisfied tank stat and most rads are closed by the TRVs. The pump in your current setup will continue to run with nowhere much for the water to go. You would be better with an auto bypass valve between the pressure side of the pump and the return to the boiler. This allows water to circulate on a short circuit through the pump and boiler and is set to limit the pressure that develops in the HW and CH circuits when closed and restricted respectively. Can you tie a cup or glass directly below vent outlet but above water level in tank and leave it for a few days to see if any water comes over.

How do you control the l'room temp at the minute. Is this rad permanently open or do you open/close it manually to control temp.

Living room rad has valve fully open (TVR head off). Heat is controlled by turning off at programmer so we basically just put heating on for an hour until lounge warms up then maybe stick it on a couple of hours later when things cool down. Rest of TVRs are turned well down so they soon switch off the rest of the rads in the house. I imagine after about half an hour only the living room rad has water moving round it as the TVR head is off.

Will try vessel under vent pipe to see if anything overpumps...

Thanks for all your help on this....
