I have just had a plumber in to quote to replace an existing floor mounted Camray oil boiler which has had its day in the kitchen to a similiar output wall mounted gas equivelent, Valliant or Worcester were mentioned.

Points that the plumber mentioned were that :-

1] Cylinder would need replacing at the same time as it is not up to regs with regard to its outer jacket not being bonded on?

2] Pipes that run between the ground and 1st floor need to be accessed meaning carpet and floor boards up? Are the pipes that he requires not already at the original boiler??

Many thanks, not doubting the plumber just want your opinion.

Yes and Yes

Tank needs to factory insulated and high recovery to BS----

The hot water pipes need to be lagged to BS-----

Sounds like he is giving good advice, Cylinders have to be brought up to an acceptible standard as per Blg Regs Part L1

Sounds like your existing system has Gravity Circulation to Hot Water, this will have to be upgraded as per Part L1 also

Hope this helps

I think it is for the installer to recommend the fitting of a fast recovery insulated hot water vessel, but it is not mandatory.

The fully pumped conversion is meant to be mandatory.

CHeSS HR5 basic, all cylinders must be factory insulated.

HR6 Best practice. High-performance hot water cylinder.

Is that not applicable to IF and WHEN you replace a cylinder, or a new system?

I've never been informed that there is any regulation stating you must change a HW cylinder at the time of a boiler change, although I always tell my customers it is advisable.

Depends how you interpret it.
I read it as upgrade required if you have new boiler, using a boiler interlock and trvs in bedrooms as the argument.
