Hi guys, when we moved house 2.5 years ago we inherited a fitted oven which work fine, but last year the element went so i replaced it with a new one and all was good, a few months after it stopped working due to the blue wire detaching from the spade connector so i made good the connection and once again all was good for a few months, this has happened again since and was repaired, but yesterday it went again but there isn't enough wire to make good the connection so my question to you knowledgeable folk is this............is it possible for me to replace the blue wire to prolong the ovens life or do you think i am flogging a dead horse and should get a new one? I have attached a picture of the wires and i have ringed in red the troublesome wire end.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Lee

The wire can be replaced.

But, and I don't say this to be unpleasant, the fact that you've had 2 goes at "making good" the connection and both times the repair has failed, I suggest you get a service engineer in to do it.

I totally agree with you there but as it is at least 8 years old i was abit reluctant to pay to get something fixed that might not last much longer anyway. To be honest it was abit of a make do job when i repaired it, using spade connectors i already had, im sure if i had the right bits it would be ok. Is there anything in particular i need for the wire and spade connector?

thanks

Buy a new one. Online. Dont go into Currys et al, their selection on builtins is dire.

Dont use B&Q, their markup on appliances is outrageous. Built in Fridge freezer in B&Q, cheapest is £449, their own brand Cata. Appliancesonline cheapest is £249, and thats an indesit.

Just do a google search for "built in single oven" or "built under/in double oven".

Buy a new one.
No - sorry, that's a stupidly outrageous environmentally unsound idea.

You'd replace a perfectly sound appliance for the sake of a few cm of wire and 2 properly made connections to spade terminals? Are you raving mad?

The terminal where the blue wire from the loom goes is a double one, so the wire going to that can be left, the one which loops to the far terminal can be cut away, and a short piece of wire with two properly done crimped on spade terminals can be added.

I would replace the other spade terminals too while you are on, as they are also looking past their best
