An interesting read

Agreed! just funny that the tranny started playing up when they were there lol, perfect opportunity for having a dig a them when everything came back clear.

The IQA guy was like *Buzzzzzzzzz* " :| It wasn't anything I've done" lol

haha this day gets even more interesting. SP have had to cut a phase in the street as the fuse caught fire!!!! yes, it actually caught fire! currently they have isolated the phase and are working to fix it but insist this incident is NOT connected with the problems we're having.

However, after all the fun here tonight, a man in a suit came to our door from Scottish Power apologising for the issues we're having and saying that an engineer is manning the substation tonight due to the activity and that a team will be here at 9am tomorrow morning to start DIGGING, yes! digging! to look for damage on the cable, although the say the whole substation and scheme is urgently needing attention.

Maybe theres a light at the end of the tunnel..... or maybe it's just the substation glowing! lol

caught fire? wonder why it overheated and didnt rupture quickly
I wonder what their pfc is through good old terra firma

!

Run outside and ask them if they would like a bet that there is a common issue between their fuse catching fire and the problems you are having
but remind them on they're still looking for two seperate faults now though

It'll be the latter!

I'm actually laughing now that I have a piece of paper certifying my install and next doors as up to scratch!

There away atm, but keep popping up every half hour or so. I went a casual walk a wee while ago past the transformer which is in forrestry trust land (as you do lol) and it was making a rather groaning noise as if it was "struggling"

Aw well, diggers tomorrow supposedly, I'll take some pics. and post up if theres anything happening. And yes, I could see the tranny from where I was standing as I ran up after the guy, it was "fizzling" glowing bright red with some (albeit small) flames, then a few mins later "pop" and all is calm lol

remind me never to plug a toaster in up there!! It may not be just the bread that gets it!

Hello everyone, here's a super summarised version of the last two days!
(pics to follow if you want them!)

Yesterday -
SP arrive, tear up either side of road.... new cable down pole, under road, and to bottom of my drive, fault still there! tear up drive... new cable to front of house, fault stil there....

Today -
new cable finished all the way to Service Head, yep, fault still there
Loop inpedence yesterday in old supply = 0.3
Loop inpedence today on new supply = 0.5! (and bouncing about)

they gave us an earth spike = no change
Now linesman out, he says there is a broken neutral on the line between service head at top of pole, and transformer. (Now I'm sure quite a few hear said that!)

that's all for now!
Thanks

It seems extraordinary that they should do all that (probably unnecessary) work before identifying/localising the fault. Have they not heard of undertaking fault diagnosis prior to 'randomly' jumping in to repair/replace things which may well be perfectly OK? !

Kind Regards, John.

Yeah I know, I'm not complaining anyone though, got a whole new supply from pole to MET. and driveway relayed and some new extra red chips, a free earth spike and new tar on front path! All they need to do now is the weeding!

But yeah, I do understand that this is a bit daft doing all that work and nothing happening! Apparently before the year is out all the poles are coming down anyway, we'll wait and see. Anyway, linesman here now!

FFS I take it they couldn't find anyone to do any continuity testing between the pole and your cutout before they started ripping roads up etc then

no there wouldn't be, but on the bright side at least you have a new service cable, driveway and earth rod
oh and almost forgot...FFS why is it taking them so long!

Months and months ago!

FFS why can't they fix this,....i'm getting fustrated for you now Andy

It is getting frustrating, I'm not so angry now, the tidied up driveway, new supply, and Earth rod has stemmed that (at least until monday)

Heres some pictures below showing the extent of the mess it was in.
Also, notice the amount of vehicles and manpower 'lying about'. This isn't all of it. At one point there was 4 SP transits (2 with trailers), an excavator, a cherry picker, a the bosses car  , a tar lorry, and a lorry filled with type 1 hardcore..... all in this wee cul-de-sac. Also holes in both pavements, over the neighbours gate, and half of our drive!

They now think the fault is 'backfeeding' from another property and are disconnecting cables at the top of each pole, knocking blocks off temporarily and checking the readings

I conclude that they are either completely stupid or were just waiting for a good excuse to get the big digger and cherry picker out

Whoops, too late! Although to be fair, me being sad, I made an "Earth Rod" sign and symbol, laminated and siliconed to the wall above ground level where the rod is

and lmao BAN, got in a bit of a mess there!
