Where opposed and sometimes similar regimes are involved there will usually be some one in an embassy for disruptive and other similar reasons - if they are allowed to stay.

The Iranian that had diplomatic immunity is only part of the story if people bother to read about it. The group they intended to attack are exiled Iranians who had the cute trick of assassinating some Iranians. They have become a powerful lobby - they would though wouldn't they. Iran has oil. Not condoning bombing. It's a too extreme an example of using a drone to take out a general. Serves no useful purpose but makes good press - for some group but not so good for the other.
