Angle Grinder Multi-cutter

Hi,

I am thinking of using my angle grinder to cut wood. When I shopped for a blade most that I saw are multi-cutters i.e. it can cut not only wood but other types of materials like mdf, pvcs and even steel. But I also read that angle grinders are not designed to cut wood because they spin too fast. So why are these people selling multi-cutters? And are they safe to use?

I wouldn't use one.

A member of this forum suffered a fatal injury when using an angle grinder to cut wood.

They just spin too fast, buy or hire the correct tools for the job.

Something like this one with a suitable guard can be used for carving. But they need treating with respect.

So is using the grinder on wood that is dangerous or the multi-cutter blade itself? If it is OK to use this tool on metals then why not on wood if you have the right blade?

The most dangerous thing in that video is the way he is holding the grinder, if the blade jammed the tool would try to pull itself towards the user. It should be held the otherway so it is trying to pull itself away from the user.

The arbourtech and similar cutters are not far removed from the same type of cut you get with a chainsaw so should be used with mesh visor, chainsaw gloves and trousers. These blades can grab your flesh and take out a bigger bite than a grinding disc so yes they are more dangerous. But both if misused could hurt.

Buy a table saw or chopsaw and keep yourself safe.

Angle grinders spin too fast and will cause a lot of personal injury if you slip. Might take a minute or so to come to a complete stop after which you could easily suffer multiple cuts.

Do yourself a favour!
